EYFS - Specific Areas

EYFS - Specific Areas

The Specific Areas focus on more specialised areas of learning, helping a child to learn the basics of maths and literacy as well as nurturing their imaginations and curiosity about the world.  They work hand in hand with the prime areas and become more detailed and significant as the child progresses towards their Early Learning Goals at the end of their Reception year.

Like Prime Areas, they are categorised into milestone statements and split into overlapping age bands. These can be seen in the Early Outcomes of the Development Matters, a non statutory document that practitioners can use to help implement a child's learning and track their progress within the areas.
