Policies and Procedures Pack

This pack is an updated and improved version of my previous policy pack, and I think you’ll love it!

It’s updated because it aligns with the EYFS Statutory Framework for Childminders, effective September 2025 and includes additions like a climate action plan, policies on funding and consumable fees, safer recruitment, explanation of the framework and curriculums, and an enhanced section on food safety and nutrition!

It's improved because the format is better; it’s split into sections to make it simpler for you to edit and easier for the reader to digest!  It also has an entire section dedicated to ‘setting your stall out’, which presents an opportunity to share your boundaries and expectations for your business!

Why This Pack Matters

This comprehensive Policies and Procedures Pack is a clear reflection of your commitment to running a professional, well-organised childminding business. It showcases your attention to detail, your understanding of safeguarding and best practice, and your dedication to delivering high-quality care in a nurturing environment. It’s an invaluable tool for demonstrating your professionalism to families, inspectors, staff, and anyone with an interest in your setting.

Under Section 3.6 of the EYFS Statutory Framework (accessed September 2025), it states:

“Childminders must have and implement policies and procedures to keep children safe and meet EYFS requirements. Childminders solely registered on early years register or with an early years CMA are not required to have written policies and procedures. However, they must be able to explain their policies and procedures to parents, carers and others (for example Ofsted inspectors or the CMA with which they are registered). Childminders must ensure any assistants follow these policies and procedures.”

While written policies may not be mandatory for all childminders, having a well-prepared set of documents makes practical sense. It allows you to refer to them whenever needed, ensuring clarity, consistency, and full compliance with the EYFS Framework. It also reinforces your high standards and expectations for the families you support and any staff you work alongside.

Documenting your policies and procedures helps you apply them consistently and confidently. Working through this pack will guide you through every aspect of your business, helping you feel organised, reassured, and empowered — all while saving you hours of work by eliminating the need to start from scratch.

Why Should I Buy It?

The document is fully editable, allowing you to personalise each section to reflect your own policies and procedures. You’ll also be able to update the front cover and branding to match your business.

Working through this pack is more than a compliance exercise — it’s an opportunity to reflect, gain clarity, and feel empowered in your role. As you explore each section, we hope you’ll be reminded of the incredible work you do every day, and the positive impact you have on the lives of children and families.

Parents need to understand how your setting operates — from opening hours and illness policies to behaviour management and outings. A pack helps you set expectations, build trust, and avoid misunderstandings by providing clear, written guidance.

When policies are written down, it’s easier to apply them consistently — whether you’re dealing with challenging behaviour, managing dietary needs, or working with assistants. It also helps ensure continuity if you work with others or need to delegate responsibilities.

Is it Ready to Go?

No, because no two childminding settings are the same — which is why this pack isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s designed to be fully editable so you can tailor it to reflect your own unique approach. To make the process easier, you’ll find helpful notes and guidance throughout, as if I’m right there beside you, walking you through each section.

Yes, it will take a little time to work through, but far less than starting from scratch. This pack takes the pressure off, sparks ideas, and helps you organise your thoughts, so everything is aligned and clearly documented. It’s a practical, reassuring way to get your policies and procedures in place — with confidence and clarity.

Created by a Champion for Childminders

This pack was written by an experienced former childminder and teacher, who understands the realities of running a home-from-home setting and the need for professional, quality and well researched paperwork that can be trusted.  It’s suitable for both Ofsted and agency-registered childminders, including those just starting out. Please note: while agencies do not have permission to distribute this pack to their members, individual childminders within agencies are welcome to purchase and adapt it for their own use.
