Are you doing too much paperwork?

You may think this an odd question for a business selling paperwork, but if you know anything about me, you'll know it's not!

Let me explain - I don't do the hard sell.  I create practical and useful digital paperwork that looks good and is simple to use.  I just put it out there and occasionally write the odd 'blowing my own trumpet, but you may find this useful' comment on social media in response to a request for paperwork help.

I also try and include detailed descriptions for each pack too, so you get a good idea of what's included and how it can help you - if you think it will work for you and you'd like to buy it; that's great!  Thank you very much!

So are you doing too much paperwork?

Only you can answer that!  I recommend you set aside an hour or so (easier said than done I know) to go through all your paperwork and ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is this?

  • Is this necessary?

    • If so, why is it necessary?

    • Is it from the Statutory Framework/ Ofsted/agency/LA/someone on Facebook said I needed it?

  • Is this useful?

  • Who is this for?

  • How much time does this take?

  • How long do I keep this for?

If you have questions about the term 'digital paperwork' or you aren't sure what that means exactly, please head to the FAQs, where you should get the answers you are looking for.  If not, feel free to get in touch with me.

If you are finding any aspect of childminding tricky and you need some support from fellow childminders and people who get it, please reach out.

So what paperwork do you need to have?

The statutory paperwork is listed in the EYFS Statutory Framework and the Ofsted Handbook, so you can go through this with a fine tooth comb and ensure you have everything you need.

If you don't fancy doing this, you will be pleased to know that I already did it and I turned it into the Blue Button Childminding Paperwork Checklist to make your life easier.

It works through each section of a typical childminding business and lists the statutory paperwork alongside the framework references for everything, including ICO, insurance documents etc as well as the recommended paperwork, advice and suggestions for filing ideas and good practise.  You'll find it in the shop if you want a nosey.
